The National Science has awarded $1.48MM funding over three years for a project entitled "Interconnections: Revisiting the Future." The project's PI is Dr. Lori Walters, an historian who is part of the interdisciplinary team at the Media Convergence Laboratory, a collaboration directed by EECS professor Charles Hughes. Interconnections examines the educational potential of immersive 3D virtual avenues for adolescents between 9 and 13. By their very nature World’s Fairs are temporary events that provide a panoramic snapshot of an era. Through their myriad of pavilions they offer links to multiple disciplines – science, engineering, technology, national and international political/cultural affairs, art, history and architecture. Interconnections creates an immersive 3D environment with highly accurate and detailed models. The project also provides on-site museum experiences at the New York Hall of Science (NYHS) and the Queens Museum of Art (QMA).
