EECS Moves Dramatically to 57 in Graduate Ranking
The School of EECS is ranked 57th in Electrical Engineering graduate programs according to the 2010 U.S. News & World Report America's Best Graduate Schools! Last year, EE was 65 on the list and was UCF's highest ranked graduate program. For five straight years, EE has moved up in these prestigious rankings.

Harris Corp. Receives UCF Research Award from EECS

The 2009 Industry Research Sponsor Award from the School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science was been presented to long-time partner, Harris Corporation at the School's 2009 EECS Industry Day on April 24. Dr. Issa Batarseh, EECS director, presented Mr. Craig Miller, vice president of research at Harris Corp., with this year's annual award, which recognizes one company for its consistent support of research activities at the school.
“The UCF School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is playing a key role in expanding the technology base of Central Florida and in preparing the highly skilled workforce upon which Harris and other technology companies rely,” said Kent Buchanan, chief technology officer of Harris and vice president of Engineering for its Government Communications Systems business. “Harris has had a strong relationship with UCF for many years and some 690 graduates are employed at every level of our organization. We are honored to receive the 2009 Industry Research Sponsor award.”

| Robotic Arm Research in Dr. Aman Behal's Assistive Robotics Lab Helps Spinal Cord PatientsThursday, June 18, 2009Dr. Aman Behal, associate professor of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has been featured in Orlando Health for he and his Assistive Robotics Laboratory team's research work on a robotic arm for spinal cord injured patients. | Dr. Ronald Phillips Granted Emeritus StatusWednesday, April 01, 2009Ronald Phillips was named Professor Emeritus at the UCF Founders' Day ceremony on April 1, 2009. Dr. Phillips is a retired Professor of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and he was the first engineering director for CREOL, which was then known as the Center for Electro Optics and Lasers when it was formed in 1984. He pursued funding from the Legislature, raising more than $1.5 million and securing 15 faculty positions for the center. Additionally, Dr. Phillips was recognized by Gov. Lawton Chiles for his work to develop space education at UCF’s Florida Space Institute at Kennedy Space Center. After four research books and more than 130 research papers, he is now retired, but he continues to collaborate with faculty and students and remains active in research. |
| Dr. Joseph J. LaVioloa Jr. Awarded NSF CAREER AwardMonday, February 16, 2009 Joseph J. LaViola Jr., School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Assistant Professor, is a 2009 recipient of the National Science Foundation's Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award. | Dr. Issa Batarseh Honored as AAAS FellowSaturday, February 14, 2009 Issa Batarseh, Professor and Director of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has been honored as a Fellow of the American Association of the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Batarseh was recognized for his work in the area of power electronics and solar energy conversion and for his advancement of science and its applications in service to society. | EECS's EXCEL Prgoram Helps Students "Excel" in Math and ScienceThursday, February 12, 2009 UCF's EXCEL program students get the feeling of a small college campus while pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This dynamic, two-year program aims to help incoming freshmen increase their success in science and math classes by creating connections with other students, faculty and disciplines. The EXCEL program is led by Program Director Dr. Michael Georgiopoulos of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Program Director Dr. Cynthia Young of the Department of Mathematics.
